One of the biggest environmental problems facing contemporary cities is urban air pollution. Pollutant emissions from the transportation industry have dramatically increased due to rapid urbanization, population growth, and rising car ownership. Nitrogen oxides (NOₓ), carbon monoxide (CO), particulate matter (PM), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are among the dangerous pollutants released by vehicle emissions that worsen air quality and have a negative impact on both human health and the environment. The sources, makeup, and effects of vehicle emissions in cities are reviewed in this study, along with how they contribute to air pollution. In order to lower emissions from transportation networks, the study also addresses policy interventions and mitigation techniques.
